New Delhi has received a note verbale from Dhaka seeking the extradition of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity, reports news agencies ANI and India Today.
India's Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Monday that it had received a note verbale regarding Hasina's extradition. However, the ministry did not comment on the matter.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said, "We confirm that we have received a note verbale from the Bangladesh High Commission today, which is related to an extradition request. We have no comment on this right now."
Earlier, Bangladesh sent a note to India to send back former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity. Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain told the reporters on Monday afternoon.
The Foreign Affairs Advisor said Bangladesh has sought the extradition of the former Prime Minister to face trial. This has been conveyed to India. A note verbale has been sent to India in this regard.
