The interim government has changed the name of the railway bridge built on the Jamuna River. The name of this railway bridge connecting Sirajganj and Tangail has been changed from 'Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Railway Bridge' to 'Jamuna Rail Bridge'.
Bangladesh Railway Director General Md Afzal Hossain shared this information on Sunday afternoon.
He said that the name of the railway bridge built on the Jamuna River will no longer be Bangabandhu Railway Bridge. It will now be inaugurated as Jamuna Railway Bridge. This railway bridge may be inaugurated in January 2025.
It is worth noting that the previous government approved the plan to build a 4.80-kilometer-long dual-gauge double-track railway bridge parallel to the Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge on March 3, 2020. The project cost was estimated at Tk 16,780 crore. Of this, the government will finance Tk 4,631 crore and Japan's JICA will finance Tk 12,149 crore.
