Three people who attempted to rob the Jinjira branch of Rupali Bank in Chunkutia Pakapol area of South Keraniganj in Dhaka, have surrendered to the members of joint forces.
The joint forces have also rescued the hostages trapped inside unharmed.
On Thursday, around 5:30 pm, those three robbers were detained and taken away in a white microbus.
A RAB officer present at the scene informed reporters that those three robbers had been captured inside the bank and were carrying three homemade weapons.
According to locals, the robbers entered the bank around 1:30 PM. At that time, an announcement about the robbery was made over the loudspeaker of a nearby mosque, prompting several hundred people to surround the bank branch.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the South Keraniganj Police Station Mazharul Islam told Bangladesh Pratidin that three armed robbers were inside the bank. He added that after the robbers entered the Rupali Bank branch in the Chunkutia area, locals locked the bank from the outside. Upon receiving the news, police and other law enforcement officials arrived at the scene and later persuaded the robbers to surrender.
