Five passengers were killed in a head-on collision between a dump truck and a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Pekua, Cox's Bazar.
The incident occurred at 8 am today (Dec 19) in the Hazirbazar area of Taitong, on the regional highway in Pekua Upazila.
One of the victims was the CNG driver, Monirul Mannan. The other victims included Firoz, his wife Sharmin, and their young child, all residents of Hathazari, Chattogram.
Police, citing eyewitness accounts, stated that a CNG-run auto rickshaw traveling from Pekua to Chattogram was struck by a dump truck coming from the opposite direction at Hazibazar station on the regional highway this morning. The collision left the auto rickshaw severely damaged. Bystanders rescued the five passengers and transported them to Pekua Upazila Hospital, where doctors declared four dead. The injured child later succumbed to injuries while being taken to Chattogram, according to family members.
Another critically injured child was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Cox's Bazar district police spokesperson Jasim Uddin confirmed the details to the media.
Pekua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Mustafa confirmed the incident, stating that five people, including a child, were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto rickshaw and a dump truck at Hazirbazar in Taitong.
The dump truck was seized from the scene.
