BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said they want to maintain a neighbourly position with India.
He made the remarks on Friday afternoon while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the teachers of various educational institutions, imams of mosques, moazzems and mohtamims, and business persons at Banglahili Pilot School and College ground in Dinajpur.
Hakimpur Upazila BNP arranged the view-exchange meeting.
Zahid Hossain said, “We will be friends with India only if you (India) respect me and I will respect you. There is no reason to think that I am your subject and you are my king.”
“We have no enemy with any citizen of India. We are Bangladeshi and you are Indian. We want to live unitedly in this region. We have no difference among Bangladeshis which is common in India,” he added.
Hakimpur Upazila BNP president Ferdouse Rahman presided over the meeting.
