The prosecution team has filed a petition to the International Crimes Tribunal seeking a ban on the broadcast of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's defamatory remarks in the media and on social media.
On Thursday morning (Dec 5), the prosecution filed the petition to the relevant section. The hearing will take place at 11:30 am before a three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed this information to Bangladesh Pratidin.
In recent days, Sheikh Hasina, currently residing in India, has made various derogatory remarks about the interim government, which have circulated widely on social media. The prosecution has stated that this petition seeks to halt the hate speech being delivered by the former PM.
Earlier, on November 18, the International Crimes Tribunal directed that the investigation into the July-August genocide case involving former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina be completed within one month. The report is due by December 17.
After the July-August mass uprising, over 150 allegations, including abductions, murders, and genocide, have been submitted to the tribunal against Sheikh Hasina, Awami League leaders, 14-party alliance members, and former top officials of the law enforcement agencies.
Among those arrested are 25 individuals, including 10 former ministers.
