A court in Dhaka has imposed a permanent travel ban on the former managing director (MD) and CEO of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Taqsem A Khan, over allegations of corruption.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jakir Hossain passed the order on November 13, allowing a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), reports BSS.
Investigation Officer and ACC Deputy Director Syed Nazrul Islam filed the plea, stating that the anti-graft body is investigating allegations of corruption and the embezzlement of crores of taka through illegal appointments involving Taqsem and others. The ACC filed the plea after learning that Taqsem is attempting to flee the country.
Earlier on August 22, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain imposed a 60-day travel embargo on Taqsem.
Taqsem was first appointed as the MD and CEO of Dhaka WASA in 2009. In spite of allegations of gross misconduct and graft, his term was extended a couple of times. His term was extended for another three years in August 2023. Recently after the ousting of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he finally resigned from the post.
