students, teachers, activists form human chain in DU to protest harassment of adviser Asif Nazrul

Former and current students of the law department of University of Dhaka, university teachers' organization Sada Dal and university students have protested against the harassment of Asif Nazrul, legal advisor to the interim government and professor of law department of Dhaka University (DU) in Geneva, Switzerland. They demanded the punishment of those involved in this misdeed.

Former and current students of the law department held a protest rally in front of Kazi Motaher Hossain building of the university on Saturday.

Shahjahan Saju, a former judge of the International Court of Justice and a former student of law department of the university, said in the rally, "Those who harassed Asif Nazrul in Switzerland should be identified and brought to justice. At the same time, I will request the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of Switzerland to look into the matter as to why this unpleasant incident happened there.”

Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, the former general secretary of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association, marking such incidents as criminal offences, said, "The way some pro-Awami League people blocked the way of advisor Asif Nazrul will be considered a criminal offense not only in Bangladesh but also under international law. I call on the interim government to communicate state to state and send the video of defaming Asif Nazrul to the government of Switzerland.”

On the same day, Sada Dal, an organization of pro-BNP teachers of Dhaka University, also formed human chain. This protest was announced in a joint statement signed by the Acting Convener of the University Sada Dal, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Siddikur Rahman Khan and Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam.

In the notification, Sada Dal stated, "We think that the miscreants have shown the guts to harass Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul at Geneva Airport. We do not want to see a repeat of this situation.”

In the end, the white party strongly demanded the government to immediately identify those involved and take necessary steps to bring them under exemplary punishment.
