Home Advisor, Lieutenant General (Retd.), Jahangir Alam, has said that 300 students will work with the police in traffic management. Subsequently, this number of students will be increased.
According to him, this initiative will improve the traffic management system.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the DMP's Traffic Week 2024, held on Monday afternoon at the Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.
According to the adviser, the traffic system has collapsed due to a massive number of legal and illegal vehicles on the road. As a result, the traffic jam has become unbearable.
It is possible to improve the system by making sure that the general public are aware of the current situation. With this goal in mind, DMP has launched a 15-day program.
“I firmly believe that it will not only boost the traffic department in Dhaka metropolis but it will also alleviate the suffering of the people by improving the traffic management system of Dhaka,” said the adviser.
He also said, “Although the country has seen economic growth and infrastructure development, the transport system has not been organized or modernized. Affordable and comfortable transportation options for the people have not been adequately provided by either the government or the private sector”.
He further mentioned that after the fall of the fascist government, the traffic system of the entire country, including Dhaka, collapsed. Considering the plight of the general public, the students took on voluntary roles for several days to maintain order in traffic and transportation. When the current interim government came to power, efforts were made to improve the traffic situation with the help of police, students, and civil society. The traffic department has started taking legal action against illegal vehicles.
