The government has set 9:00 am to 3:30 pm as the office hours during the holy month of Ramadan, starting in the second week of February.
The decision was taken on Wednesday at a regular Cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain at a press briefing.
Mahbub Hossain said the decision would be effective for all government, semi-government, autonomous, and semi-autonomous offices during Ramadan.
He said there would be a break from 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm for Zuhr prayers during office time.
But the Supreme Court, banks and other financial institutions will be free to decide their working hours.
Based on the lunar calendar, Ramadan is supposed to start on 12 February.
Government offices are now running from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm to save electricity. Normal office hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
