Former Indian foreign secretary, the chief coordinator of G-20 event in India in 2023 and Ex-Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla has emphasized on making the visa process between Bangladesh and India easier.
He said, “When I was in charge of foreign secretary, then we used to provide 5 lakh visas. After some simplification of the process, it was upgraded to provide 5 lakh to 15 lakh visas. Now, it has been promoted to 20 lakh visas. I think the visa process should be made easier so that the tourists don’t face any harassment and get it without facing delay. We’re trying to increase the number of visas to the Bangladeshis. If that’s made possible, then the interaction among people of two counties will be enhanced too.”
Shringla made these comments while participating in a discussion on 'India-Bangladesh Cultural and Commercial Relations' organized by the 'Indo Bangla Friendship Association' (IBFA) at a hotel in Kolkata's Newtown on Friday.
Textile and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, who was present at the event, said, “India and Bangladesh are role models of what kind of relationship two neighboring countries can have. So India-Bangladesh relationship that exists today will remain intact. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have strengthened the relationship between the two countries. We will take this relationship further forward.”
