As many as 330 Myanmar nationals, including Border Guard Police (BGP) members, who fled to Bangladesh and took refuge amid the internal conflict between Arakan Army and Myanmar troops along the international border, will be sent back to their homeland on Thursday, reports Daily Sun.
They will be handed over to the Myanmar authorities around 8am under the supervision of the Bangladesh border force, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam said in a press statement on Wednesday.
The Myanmar nationals will be ferried by a ship from the Navy Jetty at Inani in Cox’s Bazar.
On Tuesday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said the members of Myanmar security forces would be sent back soon.
“They [Myanmar] have sent a message to us saying that they will take their security personnel back by ship very soon. Hopefully, they will take their members back within 1-2 days,” he told reporters after addressing the opening ceremony of Highway Police’s “Service Week-2024” at the Rajarbagh Police Lines in Dhaka.
Replying to another question, the minister said, “We have made it clear that we already have 1.2 million Rohingyas here. We will not allow anyone from Myanmar to settle here, be it Rohingya or anyone else.”
