Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday made a telephone call to President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reports UNB.
The two leaders exchanged greetings and spoke to each other on various issues of bilateral relations for 15 minutes from around 08:30 pm.
Sheikh Hasina thanked the UAE President for being available for the phone call.
She expressed her deep condolences on the untimely demise of his brother Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Both leaders recalled that the founding fathers, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, established the bilateral relationship between the two brotherly countries in March 1974.
Sheikh Hasina, on behalf of the Bangladeshi People, the Government, the family members of Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Sufiul Anam, and of her own, expressed deep gratitude to the UAE President as well as the UAE intelligence units for their extraordinary efforts and successful negotiation with the heartening outcome of the release of Anam from the kidnappers in Yemen.
She also thanked the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
The prime minister said that the negotiation of the successful release of Aman from the captivity of Al-Qaeda demonstrates the ability of the UAE as a peace-building and responsible nation under his visionary leadership.
She hoped the UAE would continue to perform such responsibility towards peace and stability in the region in the future.
This kind of cooperation would further strengthen the existing strong bilateral ties and shared commitment between the two peace-loving countries.
Sheikh Hasina reiterated that Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations in March next year.
To that end, she expressed her willingness to jointly take commemorative activities to celebrate the milestone occasion.
She invited the President of the UAE to pay a visit to Bangladesh to mark the event.
The prime minister also congratulated the UAE President, the UAE Government, and the people on the UAE for hosting the COP-28.
She reiterated Bangladesh’s support to the UAE for COP-28.
The PM lauded the UAE President’s role in greenery formation in his country. She expressed her expectation that the UAE would lead in finding a successful solution to the issues of global warming and climate change.
Sheikh Hasina thanked the UAE for hosting peace-loving, law-abiding workers from Bangladesh.
The UAE President appreciated those workers’ contribution to the development of their economy and society.
