A search operation is underway to find the missing persons after a trawler capsized when it collided with a bulkhead in a tributary of the Padma River near Munshiganj’s Louhajang upazila, reports UNB.
BIWTA Deputy Director Obaidul Karim Khan said the search and rescue team is trying to rescue the capsized trawler.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard as well as Fire Service and Civil Defence divers are searching for missing people in the area.
Eight bodies have been recovered so far from the trawler that sank with 46 passengers on board after colliding with a bulkhead on Saturday evening.
At least five people, including two children and three women, are still missing, said Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Abu jafar Ripon.
The trawler carrying picnic-goers was returning from Khidirpara union in Sirajdikhan upazila to the Padma Bridge area.
