Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a man for possessing 6 gold bars worth Tk 96 lakh intended to be smuggled out at Lakshmipur border area under Chougachha Upazila of Jashore on Tuesday afternoon.
The detainee is Atiyar Rahman, 50, son of deceased Abdus Sattar of Godadharpur village under the upazila.
BGB sources said a patrol team led by Naik Rokan Uddin working in Masila BOP challenged the man at the field approximately 100 yards inside Bangladesh from Main Pillar 39 while he was cutting grass in the guise of a farmer and recovered a total of 6 gold bars weighing 1.2 kg from his possession.
Confirming the matter, Jashore 49 BGB commanding officer Lt. Col. Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui said the detainee was handed over to Chougachha Police Station.
