At least four people were killed and 15 others injured as a passenger bus fell into a roadside ditch by losing its control on the Dhaka-Barisal highway at Madhabpur under Bhanga upazila in Faridpur on Saturday night, police said.
The deceased were identified as Humayun Kabir, Abdur Rouf, Marina Akter and her baby boy Zunaid.
According to Bhanga highway police, the drivers of two passenger buses were racing to overtake each other. At the stage, one of the buses fell into a ditch after hitting a roadside tree as the driver of the bus lost his control over the steering.
On information, highway police reached the spot and rescued the injured.
The wounded were admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur and Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
The bodies of the deceased are kept in Bhanga Police Station, said its officer-in-charge.
