Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said if BNP does excesses, its chairperson Khaleda Zia will be sent back to prison, reports UNB and BSS.
"If BNP does excess, Khaleda Zia will be sent to jail again," she said while presiding over a discussion marking the Jail Killing Day organised by the Awami League at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader delivered the welcome speech while the party’s presidium members Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram, central committee member Parvin Zaman Kalpana, martyred Syed Nazrul Islam’s daughter Dr Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi, and Dhaka South and North City Awami League presidents Abu Ahmed Monnafi and Sheikh Bazlur Rahman spoke at the event.
Awami League publicity and publication secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, and his deputy Aminul Islam moderated the discussion.
On November 3 in 1975, four national leaders and heroes of the country's Liberation War -- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman-- were assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail.
The four leaders played a key role in forming the Mujibnagar government in exile, which led the Liberation War in 1971, with Syed Nazrul Islam as the acting president, Tajuddin Ahmad as the prime minister, Mansur Ali as the finance minister and AHM Qamruzzaman as the home, relief and rehabilitation minister.
Awami League leaders placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi and Banani in the capital marking the day.
