Some ridiculous names have been submitted to the Election Commission (EC) to get registration as political parties to participate in the upcoming 12th parliamentary elections.
Most of these parties are pad and sign-board-based. They have no even offices. Many parties put their house addresses in place of office addresses.
EC sources said a total of 40 political parties submitted their applications to the commission for registration. Among these, ridiculous names are Muskil League, Bangladesh Ittadi Party, Bekar Samaj, Boirabori Party, Bangladesh Bidesh Prattagato Prabashi O Non-Prabashi Kalyan Dal, and Sorbojonin Dal.

In 2018, 76 nameless political parties appealed to the commission to get registration for the 11th national elections, said EC officials.
EC sources said not a single party among 76, did not get registration from the election commission as a political party in 2018. Parties with ridiculous names Nakphul Bangladesh and Ghus Nirmul Party applied to the commission to get registration. These parties passed the scrutiny of the commission although they have claimed to fill all the conditions of the election commission for registration. However, two political parties got registration after the polls by a court order.
Contacted, Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said, “We send letters to the parties. They give some information and we scrutinize these through field-level election officials. Then they send the report to us. If their all information is correct and accurate, then they get registration.”
The commission will take measures after scrutiny if applied political parties do not fulfil conditions properly, he added.
Meanwhile, the election commission had set till 2020 to ensure 33 per cent of women's representation in all registered political parties. But parties couldn’t fill up this. On the other hand, the Representation of the People Order (RPO) gives time till 2030 to ensure 33 per cent of women's representation in political parties.
