The current runners-up New Zealand defeated the current champion Australia by a big margin of 89 runs in the first match of Group 1 of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The match held at Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, where winning the toss, Australia elected to field first.
New Zealand got a flying start with their openers as Finn Allen hammered 42 off just 16 balls, and other opener Devon Conway carried the bat through the innings with his 92 not out of just 58 balls.
Jimmy Nisham had done the rest with his 26 of 13 balls to take them 200-mark.
In reply, Australia’s wickets tumbled in regular interval and they’re all out at 111 in 17.1 overs.
New Zealand’s experienced fast bowler Tim Southee took 3 wickets for just 6 runs, while Mitchel Santner took 3 for 31 runs.
Devon Conway was judged Player of the Match for his brilliant batting performance.
