State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said the prices of fuel oil will be adjusted within a day or two as the government has withdrawn import tax and advance income tax.
He made the remarks while talking to journalists at Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.
Nasrul Hamid said, “We will adjust the fuel oil prices. Now, scrutiny is underway. But the price of fuel oil has increased a lot in the world market. Per barrel is now at $150. Under this situation, it has to add a big part of the subsidy again. It is because the amount of subsidy was over Tk 8 when the price per diesel was Tk 114 per litre. Now the amount may increase further. We will take a decision after analyzing those matters.”
On August 5, the government revised the prices of all fuel oils at the consumer level, raising the prices of petrol, diesel, octane and kerosene by almost 50 per cent.
The prices of diesel and kerosene were raised by 42.5 per cent to Tk 114 per litre from Tk 80, while the price of petrol was raised by 51.16 per cent to Tk 130 a litre from Tk 86.
On the other hand, the price of octane was raised by 51.68 per cent to Tk 135 per litre from Tk 89.
