Taiwan's military began war-preparedness drills on Monday after Chinese warships and coast guard vessels entered the Taiwan Strait and the West Pacific for long-distance operations, reads a Focus Taiwan report.
The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) had designated seven areas east of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces as temporarily restricted airspace until Wednesday. These zones are allocated exclusively for specific uses during a set time period.
The MND reported on X: "#PLA designated 7 reserved airspace zones east of Zhejiang and Fujian. #ROCArmedForces have identified PLA naval formations and Coast Guard vessels in the Taiwan Strait and Western Pacific."
In response, Taiwan’s military initiated war-preparedness drills at strategic locations nationwide and coordinated with the Coast Guard Administration for appropriate countermeasures. Security experts have suggested that China's military exercises may be a reaction to U.S. stopovers during President Lai Ching-te's recent tour of Taiwan's South Pacific allies.
