Five dumbas have arrived at the Gabtoli cattle market in the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with traders asking between Tk4.5 lakh and Tk5 lakh for each animal.
Md Nasim Ali, owner of Rangpur-based Bismillah Agro, brought the dumbas to the market and said buyers showed interest, although sales had yet to meet expectations.
He said traders sought Tk5 lakh each for two of the dumbas, while the remaining three carried price tags of Tk4.5 lakh each. However, many buyers offered less than Tk3 lakh.
“I arrived at the market yesterday. Buyers are coming and offering prices. Sales may improve as more time passes,” Nasim Ali said.
On Saturday, a buyer named Anwar Hossain negotiated for one of the dumbas and offered Tk2.8 lakh. However, the seller requested a higher price.
Anwar Hossain said only a small number of dumbas had arrived at the market so far, which kept prices high.
“He brought only five dumbas, so prices remain unchanged. More animals may arrive later, creating room for negotiation,” he said.
Alongside cattle and buffaloes, goat and ram trading has also gained momentum at the market ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. Farmers and buyers from different districts are visiting the market in growing numbers.
A visit to the market found buyers moving around and bargaining over prices. Rams priced between Tk15,000 and over Tk100,000 were also available for sale.
Traders said they expected business to improve further in the coming days, although current sales remained below expectations.
