Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Advisor Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said, “Big projects were taken in Gopalganj for the purpose of looting. There are no people in some big institutions in Gopalganj. No services are provided in these institutions built with people's money.”
He said this at the Debate for Democracy program on the budget inflation challenge at FDC on Saturday.
Titumir said, “We have got a destroyed and fragile economy. The government has shortage in money. Still, we are trying to turn around. The government is trying to break the oligarchic management of various sectors, including the power sector. Investment and employment in the country must be increased.”
Referring to the government's plans for the economy, he said, “Our government wants to create a new economic zone in the northern region outside Dhaka and Chattogram. Our government is taking initiatives to reopen closed industrial factories. As part of the government's economic strategy, we want to establish economic democracy, and want break the oligarchic system to control inflation.”
