The government has granted permission to 43 companies to import an additional 19 crore 30 lakh eggs to control the prices.
The Ministry of Commerce issued a letter to the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports on Monday, instructing them to take necessary measures regarding this import.
Earlier in October, permission was granted in two phases to 19 companies to import more than 8 crore eggs. This approval will remain valid until 31 December of this year.
It is estimated that the country has a daily demand for approximately 5 crore eggs.
The authorities expect this measure to increase supply and ease the pressure on prices. However, strict monitoring will be in place to ensure that imported eggs meet quality standards and are sold at regulated prices.
The impact of this decision on local poultry farmers and the broader market dynamics remains a topic of concern and discussion among stakeholders.
