The fire that raged through the fourth and fifth floors of a multi-story building in Dhaka’s Purana Paltan area early Wednesday morning was brought under control after two hours of efforts.
The warehouse inspector (Media Cell) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters, Anwarul Islam, said that they received information about the fire at Zaman Tower at Purana Paltan around 5:35 am, reports UNB.
In response, 14 firefighting units from several stations were dispatched to the scene, though only nine units were engaged in extinguishing the flames, he said.
The fire was brought under control at 7:35 am, the fire service official added, noting that dumping work was still underway as of 8:00 am when this report was filed.
Two men were rescued from the fire-hit building, he stated, adding that the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
