A tragic drowning incident claimed the life of a two-and-a-half-year-old child in Bonpara, located in the Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district, on Saturday morning.
The child, identified as Abdullah Mia, was the son of Omar Faruk Mia from Bonpara. Locals reported that while the family was engaged in household chores, Abdullah was playing near a pond adjacent to their home. Around 10:30 am, his aunt, Rashida Begum, noticed his lifeless body floating in the water.
Family members quickly retrieved the child from the pond and rushed him to the Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead. Following the tragic event, Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sanowar Hossain confirmed that a police team had been dispatched to the scene upon receiving news of the incident.
In a separate incident, a woman, whose identity remains unknown, was struck by the Madhumati Express train as it departed from Rajshahi for Dhaka around 7 am. She was crossing the Harian rail crossing at the time of the incident.
Rajshahi Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Gopal Karmakar, confirmed the details and mentioned that authorities have reached out to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for assistance in identifying the victim. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
