The High Court (HC) on Monday commuted the death sentences of seven jailed militants in the Holey Artisan attack case to imprisonment till death.
Justice Sahidul Karim and Justice Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman's High Court bench announced the verdict.
The convicts are --Jahangir Hossain, Aslam Hossain Rash, Hadisur Rahman, Rakibul Hasan Regan, Abdus Sabur Khan, Shariful Islam Khaled, and Mamunur Rashid Ripon.
The court delivered the verdict quashing death reference, appeals of the convicts and jail.
On 27 November 2019, an Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal in Dhaka sentenced seven members of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh to death for their involvement in the attack on the restaurant in the capital.
The court also acquitted one accused.
Five militants attacked the Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital's Gulshan on July 1, 2016.
The attack left 20 individuals dead including foreign nationals.
During a subsequent rescue operation, the militants were killed by army commandos.
