South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang (CPNG.N) announced on Monday a 1.69 trillion won ($1.18 billion) compensation package for 33.7 million users affected by a massive data breach that has drawn criticism from customers and lawmakers, reports Reuters.
Under the plan, each affected user will receive a 50,000 won voucher redeemable for Coupang services.
The announcement follows Coupang founder Kim Bom’s first public apology for the breach, in which he pledged to expedite compensation measures. However, Kim has declined to attend parliamentary hearings scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, citing prior commitments.
