OpenAI is in talks to raise $10 billion or more from Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) as the artificial intelligence company seeks fresh capital to fund rapidly rising computing costs, The Information reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the discussions, reports Reuters.
The report said the proposed investment would value OpenAI at more than $500 billion, underscoring strong investor appetite for leading AI developers despite the sector’s capital-intensive nature.
According to the report, the discussions also include OpenAI’s potential use of Amazon’s proprietary artificial intelligence chips, reflecting the company’s efforts to diversify its computing infrastructure as demand for AI services accelerates.
The potential Amazon investment would help OpenAI meet commitments it has already made to rent large volumes of server capacity from cloud providers, the report said, highlighting the enormous infrastructure requirements needed to train and deploy advanced AI models.
Neither OpenAI nor Amazon has publicly commented on the reported talks.
