Thai authorities are set to verify the registration details of 700,000 mobile phone numbers linked to foreign subscribers before deciding whether to terminate their mobile banking services in June, according to the Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES).
DES Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong stated that these mobile numbers, registered since January 1, 2022, will undergo a thorough check, along with approximately 1.8 million unregistered numbers. The verification aims to ensure that the names of mobile banking users match those of the phone number subscribers, a measure designed to reduce technology-related crimes. If discrepancies are found, mobile banking services will be suspended.
The new rule, introduced on February 1, requires users to comply by April 30, 2025. Any users who fail to update their registration details by that deadline will lose access to mobile banking services in June.
Banks have been instructed to notify affected customers and request that they update their information by the end of the month. Those who do not receive such notifications can continue using their banking services without concern, Minister Prasert confirmed.
