Chandika Hathurusingha, the head coach of Bangladesh National Cricket Team, cleared the matter about why Soumya Sarker is in the squad even though his very poor performance in recent international matches.
In the press conference held in Nelson in New Zealand on Tuesday he said, “I don’t know anything about the last match Soumya played as didn’t watch him playing on that match. However, I know what his problem is. He scored runs in the domestic league. And we wanted someone who can do both batting and bowling as Shakib Al Hasan is missing from the team. We were in search of someone like Shakib. That’s why Soumya’s inclusion was important.”
Hathuru said, “We want Soumya to contribute the team successfully as we see him an all-rounder.”
