Legendary actress Farida Akhter Babita has been honoured with the country’s second-highest civilian award, the Ekushey Padak-2026. Actress Jaya Ahsan congratulated her on social media, sharing heartfelt memories and admiration.
Recalling her childhood, Jaya wrote in a Facebook post on February 28.
She wrote, “As a child, I would tidy my hair and walk around wearing my mother’s oversized high heels. If anyone asked my name, I would reply, ‘I am Kabita’s daughter Babita.’ I couldn’t even pronounce Kabita properly.”
Expressing deep respect, Jaya described Babita as a powerhouse of the acting industry. She said generations have learned from her how acting transforms into art, and how an artiste carries personality and grace.
According to Jaya, many otherwise weak films remain memorable solely because of Babita’s performances, which helped shape a refined trend in Dhaka cinema and earned attention beyond national borders.
