The government has announced the 'National Film Awards-2023,' honoring 30 artists and professionals in 28 categories for their outstanding contributions to the country's film industry.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday, filmmaker Tareque Masud and cinematographer Abdul Latif Bachchu have been jointly selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
K.M. Halimuzzaman (Khondaker Sumon) emerged as a major winner, with his film Satao winning Best Film and himself earning the Best Director award.
In the performance categories, Afran Nisho was named Best Actor for the film Surongo, while Ainun Nahar (Ainun Putul) secured the Best Actress award for Satao.
Monir Ahmed (Shakil) and Nazia Haque Orsha were honored as Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for their roles in Surongo and Ora Sat Jon, respectively.
The film Priyotoma dominated the musical and writing sections, earning awards for Best Singer (Balam), Best Lyricist (Someshwar Oli), Best Composer (Prince Mahmud), and Best Story (Faruk Hossain).
Other notable winners include Abanti Sithi for Best Female Singer (Surongo), Shahiduzzaman Selim for Best Comedy Role (Surongo), and Ashish Khandaker for Best Negative Role (Adventure of Sundarban).
The awards also recognized excellence in technical fields, including Best Editing for Md. Salahuddin Ahmed Babu (Ora Sat Jon), Best Cinematography for Suman Kumar Sarkar (Surongo), and Best Art Direction for Shahidul Islam (Surongo).
In the children's category, Md Leon was named Best Child Artist, and Anaira Khan received a special award, both for the film Am Kathaler Chhuti.
The notification, signed by Secretary Mahabuba Farzana, stated that the awards were given in recognition of the awardees' creative excellence in 2023.
