Theatre troupe Bashori Repertory Theatre will stage national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s play “Boner Meye Pakhi” at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Wednesday evening.
Planned by Dr Khalekuzzaman, the play is directed by Sajjad Saju.
In the story of “Boner Meye Pakhi”, a group of palanquin bearers are attacked by a tiger on a forested road in Raigarh. A snake charmer named Bagha Bhagulal comes running to the cries of a woman’s voice inside the palanquin. He fights with the tiger and rescues the baby girl. But Bhagulal cannot save the girl’s mother.
Bhagulal adopted the child and named her Boner Meye Pakhi. The little girl gradually grows into a beautiful lady. By the favour of the Hindu goddess of snakes, Manasa, Pakhi gains the power to cure any disease. Along with this, she gets a life partner named Sujan. With his help and the power Pakhi gains through Manasa, she starts a quest to regain her identity.
The probable cast of the play includes Kamrul Hasan, Shamima Shawkat Lovely, Jubair Jahid, Rubli Chowdhury, Sajjad Saju, Mehmud Siddiqui, Nuejahan and others.
“Boner Meye Pakhi” premiered on 19 March 2022.
