Shaikh Rabiul Alam, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges said within the next two years, the Gabtoli Bus Terminal will be relocated to Hemayetpur, and the Sayedabad Bus Terminal will be moved to Kanchpur in Narayanganj.
He made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the Secretariat on Thursday.
The minister said the current bus terminals do not have a standard or hygienic environment, adding that some improvements would be made within the next four to six months, but full relocation of the terminals would take up to two years.
He said under this plan, Gabtoli Bus Terminal will be shifted to Hemayetpur and Sayedabad Bus Terminal to Kanchpur, and all major bus terminals will gradually be moved from their current locations, though it will take time to implement fully.
He also noted, “There is no proper environment for operating premium AC buses from existing terminals. Many of these services already operate from their own offices or designated points with better facilities, including improved toilets and passenger amenities, while general bus terminals lack such standards.”
The minister further said that discipline will be introduced in the bus management system.
He added that private premium bus operators currently use various locations such as Kalabagan in Dhaka as informal boarding points, but this practice will no longer be allowed.
