Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar, has emphasized that the interim government must conduct the next parliamentary elections promptly after completing necessary state reforms.
"Any attempt to reinstate fascism in the new Bangladesh will not be tolerated. Elections should be held immediately, but only after the required reforms," Parwar stated as the chief guest at an Eid reunion organized by Jamaat-e-Islami at Baruna Bazar in Dhamalia union, Dumuria upazila, Khulna district on Friday evening.
“Jamaat-e-Islami is committed to the elections, but they must occur after reforms are implemented. We are preparing for the upcoming national parliamentary elections across all 300 constituencies,” he added.
Parwar also remarked that the people of Bangladesh do not want another dictatorship. "What the country needs are honest, competent, and patriotic leaders to build a new Bangladesh. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is nurturing such leaders."
He criticized the former Awami League government for crippling the country’s economy through money laundering while touting their development claims. "By invoking 'spirit,' they divided the nation and hindered national unity and progress," Parwar said.
The Jamaat secretary general emphasized that the only solution to building a corruption-free, just, and prosperous country is the implementation of Islamic rule. "This will end corruption, terrorism, theft, bribery, and all forms of exploitation," he explained.
Reflecting on past atrocities, Parwar recalled that under the previous autocratic regime, 11 senior Jamaat leaders were killed, over 500 were paralyzed, and thousands were subjected to attacks, false charges, and forced to flee the country. "Our party’s registration was revoked, and we were banned on August 1. Just days later, the autocratic government crumbled amidst a popular uprising. We stood with the students during the July Revolution," he said.
He noted that this Eid-ul-Fitr marked the first time in years that Jamaat-e-Islami could celebrate openly, a reflection of the fall of the fascist regime. "The people of Bangladesh were filled with joy this Eid," Parwar added.
The Jamaat leader urged party members to uphold Islamic values and work for the nation’s welfare. He also prayed for the souls of the martyrs from the July-August Revolution and expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine, condemning their suffering.
Parwar called on party leaders and activists to strengthen the organization and ensure Jamaat-e-Islami's success in the upcoming elections. "The previous regime was corrupt, oppressive, and violent. Jamaat-e-Islami is working to establish Islamic governance in the country, and each one of you must contribute to this cause," he concluded.
He reaffirmed Jamaat’s vision, stating, “There is no alternative but to establish the law of the Quran and the religion of Allah on this land. For this, we must unite and vote for Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami."
