Significant number of ballot papers for the 12th national parliament election were found in a cave of Natore Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) old bungalow. Most of the ballots were stamped.
The ballots, buried in the ground under the bamboo bushes of the old bungalow in Kandivitua, were recovered at 12:30 noon on Saturday.
However, most of the ballots are for the Natore-(Lalpur- Bagatipara) constituency of the 12th national parliament election.
Earlier, on Friday (March 28) afternoon, the police recovered six firearms from the pond of the old bungalow.
However, the recovery of such a large amount of ballot papers has raised various questions in the public's mind.
When the weapon recovery operation was going on for the second consecutive day, the ballots grabbed intelligence agency member’s attention. Later, on receiving information, members of the law enforcement agencies including the police recovered the ballot papers.
When asked about this matter, Nezarat Deputy Collector (NDC) of Natore Md. Rashedul Islam said, “After the 12th national parliament election, the ballots were in the treasury.”
“During the upazila parishad election, they were kept in an old bungalow due to space constraints,” he continued. “We do not know who destroyed these ballots from there.”
However, the remaining ballots have been delivered to the tender that was awarded by the Election Commission.
