A gang of robbers looted cash and mobile phones from teachers and students traveling on four school buses during an educational trip on the Ghatail-Sagardighi road in Tangail’s Ghatail upazila, at a spot known as Lakshoner Badha.
Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghatail Police Station, said, "The robbery took place early Tuesday when the robbers blocked the Ghatail-Sagardighi road with logs and stopped four school buses. I visited the scene, but no formal complaint has been lodged yet."
Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, headmaster of the school, stated, "The buses were moving at high speed when suddenly a gang of 10 to 12 robbers placed tree trunks on the road, forcing the vehicles to stop. They brandished local weapons and looted Tk 1.5 lakh, around 12 mobile phones, and other valuables before fleeing."
Three robbery incidents in the past ten days on this road have sparked fear among locals.
Residents allege that frequent robberies occur in the region due to lack of police patrols.
Local UP Member Liakat Hossain said, "Robberies often take place at this location (Lakshoner Badha). Another robbery happened here on Wednesday (Feb 19)."
Earlier, around 1:30 am on February 15, another robbery occurred at Fakirchala in Sandhanpur Union along the same road. Robbers targeted 10 trucks, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles, looting cash and smartphones from drivers.
