Former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar was released from prison on Thursday after 17 years.
He walked out of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj around 1:45 pm after the bail order reached the jail authorities, said DIG prisons (Dhaka Zone) Jahangir Kabir confirmed the matter.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands people of Babar’s constituency (Netrokona-4) are ready to welcome and greet their leader. Some of them, have received Babar at the jail gate.
On Tuesday, the High Court (HC) acquitted Lutfozzaman Babar, who was sentenced to a life term, in a case filed over the sensational 10-truck arms haul in Chattogram.
The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Nasrin Akter passed the order.
Earlier on December 18 last year, the High Court acquitted Lutfozzaman Babar and five others, who were sentenced to death by the trial court, in another case filed over a 10-truck arms haul.
The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Nasrin Akter delivered the verdict.
