Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has assured that the government will issue more efficient accreditation cards for journalists.
The Chief Adviser's Press Wing held a meeting on Monday with the leaders of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Dhaka Union of Journalists, Dhaka Reporters Unity, and the Secretariat journalists association, according to a Facebook post by Shafiqul Alam, reports BSS.
"We told them we regret the inconvenience caused by the decision to limit entry of journalists at the Secretariat," Alam said.
During the meeting, he mentioned that the journalist leaders appreciated the government's decision to quickly issue temporary entry passes to more than 200 journalists.
"We've assured them that the government will come up with more journalist-friendly and efficient accreditation cards for journalists," the press secretary said.
Claiming that no journalists will be affected by the new move, he said the leaders of all four groups who attended the meeting agreed to submit their proposals to improve the accreditation cards and entrance procedures at the Secretariat.
"We believe in freedom of press and free flow of information. We also won't compromise an inch on the question of national security," Alam said.
