Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee (National Citizen’s Committee), criticized the poor living conditions faced by postgraduate private trainee doctors, calling it impossible to survive on a 25,000 taka salary in 2024. He voiced these concerns while showing solidarity with the protesting doctors in Shahbagh on Sunday.
Alam expressed full support for the doctors' demands, describing them as reasonable, and reiterated that the National Citizen’s Committee had previously raised the issue with the government. "Expectations are high from this government," he said, reaffirming the committee's commitment to backing the doctors' cause.
Alam warned that if the Ministry of Health fails to provide the promised written notification regarding salary increases and benefits by 5 pm next Thursday, the National Citizen’s Committee will join the doctors in their strike. He reminded that the Health Ministry had pledged to issue the notification, including the ninth-grade facilities, by the deadline, with changes set to take effect in January.
