The Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, told the ambassadors of the European Union, “It is truly commendable that you have come here. This is a reflection of your political support, economic support, moral and other support for Bangladesh.”
He said, “Just four months ago, we went through a terrible situation. Then, many students were brutally killed. This incident united the entire nation. Through this, it was possible to remove the previous government from power. Later, the Prime Minister of that government fled the country.”
The Chief Advisor made these remarks in a meeting with the diplomats of European Union (EU) on Monday afternoon. The meeting began at around 12 noon at the Chief Advisor’s office in Tejgaon.
He said, “An interim government has been formed through the movement of students and mass public, who will govern the country until the elections. The election process is underway.”
He further said after the last 16 years of repression, the expression of human emotions is clear. The tragic stories of enforced disappearances have come to the fore one after another. The entire economy has been brought to such a state that it is almost on the verge of collapse.
The chief advisor said the banking system was almost dysfunctional. We have formed a 'white paper committee'. The committee has documented the state in which we took over from the previous government. The economy, various obligations and everything has been highlighted in this report.
