BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said party vice chairman Tarique Rahman will return to the country litigating the legal complications.
He made these remarks at a press conference in London on Saturday. He said: “Tarique Rahman will return to the Bangladesh after resolving the legal complications, and when the party feels like it.”
The general secretary said: “BNP is a political party that formed government twice with people’s verdict and in future it will come to power again.”
In response to a question from Bangladesh Pratidin about whether the minus two formulae will return again, he said: “Only Almighty can minus BNP.”
He also said the reforms are discussed nowadays, BNP has been addressing those long time ago. He said: “At that time, many people including Jamaat-e-Islam supported this demand. National unity was needed to dismiss the fascist government and they were dismissed through that.”
Regarding ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s statements, he said: “I don’t understand how India allows such a person to speak.”
In response to a question about Sheikh Hasina’s claims, he said: Sheikh Hasina is “color-headed.”
He added: “How she fled the country leaving party leaders and activists behind, and now she claims of being the Prime Minister.”
During his speech, he said without being specific: “Tarique Rahman will return to the country and lead the politics.”
He highlighted the importance of elections, and said: “The desired reforms are possible only under a elected government.”
“We will hold elections after various reforms including judicial reforms on the issue of whether there is a reasonable time for elections. We are not talking about any month or year. The interim government will hold elections when it feels that reforms have been made.”
In response to a question about whether the caretaker government system will return again, he said: “We are in favor of bringing the caretaker government system permanently in the constitution.”
In response to a question about hiring lobbyists abroad, he said: “The Awami League has spent crores of taka on hiring lobbyists in different countries of the world.”
Being asked about the foreign policy towards India if BNP comes to power, he said: “There will be a policy towards India according to the time and need. However, we will not accept any attack on our sovereignty.”
He also spoke out against India’s aggression and the global propaganda being spread.
