Currently, the number of vacant positions in government jobs stands at 4,73,001. The Ministry of Public Administration on Monday sent a letter to the governor of Bangladesh Bank, all secretaries, and relevant authorities regarding filling these vacancies.
The letter states that according to the government employee statistics of 2023, the total number of vacant positions approved by the government is 4,73,001. Recently, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) published a notice to fill 3,688 vacant positions through the 47th BCS recruitment exam.
The letter further states that BPSC appoints only first class non-cadre and limited second-class officers. Other authorised positions are filled by the respective ministries or departments, subordinate offices/agencies/corporations/companies.
“The current interim government is tirelessly working to meet the public’s expectations and reduce the unemployment of educated youth through a popular uprising led by students and the public. Despite the large number of vacant positions in the country, no effective measures have been observed to fill them.”
The letter also requests that the ministries/departments, subordinate offices/agencies, and field-level offices take the necessary steps to fill the authorised vacant positions in accordance with the regulations.
It further asks for information on what actions have already been taken to fill the vacancies, along with relevant details in Word file format, to be sent to the Ministry of Public Administration within 15 working days of receiving the letter.
