A Dhaka court has barred former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and three others from leaving the country amid graft investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), reports BSS.
The other individuals facing travel restrictions are former additional secretary Farid Aziz, ex-Beanpole Customs House commissioner Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury, and his wife, Hosna Ferdous Sumi.
Dhaka Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order after granting three separate ACC petitions.
The ACC stated that Mozammel Haque is under investigation for allegedly taking commissions from contractors, embezzling funds through irregularities, laundering money abroad, and amassing illegal wealth. The commission argued that he was attempting to flee the country to evade justice.
In its plea against Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury and his wife, the ACC alleged that the former customs commissioner had amassed illegal wealth worth hundreds of crores, including properties in Canada. He is also suspected of significant investments in real estate, development firms, and the stock market.
