Five more deaths from dengue were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 372 this year, reports UNB.
Among the recent fatalities, three were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), one in the Dhaka Division (outside the city corporation), and one in the Chattogram Division (outside the city corporation).
During the same period, 1,221 more people were hospitalized with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of these, 213 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka North City Corporation, and 171 in the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Currently, 4,095 dengue patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country. Since January 1, 2024, a total of 69,922 dengue cases have been reported.
Last year, dengue claimed 1,705 lives, marking the deadliest year on record. In 2023, the DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases, with 318,749 recoveries.
