BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has vested all-out support in the incumbent administration, saying that the interim government must not be allowed to fail in any way.
“Anti-democratic evil forces are engaged in hatching conspiracies home and abroad to fail the interim government. We, myself must remain vigilant to thwart the plan,” he said while addressing a rally held in front of BNP Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka on Friday.
Joining the pre-procession rally virtually from London, the BNP leader said lakhs of people took to the streets to raise their voices against misdeed the just ousted fascist government.
It is a procession against fascism, a procession to secure self-protection against discrimination and to realise the fundamental rights of the people, Tarique said.
Calling upon his party’s rank and file to remain vigilant against the return of fascism in the country, he said the countrymen will never truly experience the essence of democracy until power is handed over to public representatives through a free and fair election.
Earlier in the day, a huge number of BNP leaders and activists gathered at the party’s central office to bring out a grand procession in the capital, marking the historical National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Shortly after Tarique Rahman’s speech, the party members began marching towards Manik Mia Avenue.
The procession will pass through Kakrail Mosque, Matsya Bhaban, the Engineering Institute, Shahbagh intersection, Hotel InterContinental, Banglamotor, Karwan Bazar and Farmgate.
BNP observed 7 November as National Revolution and Solidarity Day with the party leaders and activists, led by Mirza Fakhrul, placing wreaths and offering fateha at the grave of their party founder and former president Ziaur Rahman in the city.
