Former Member of Parliament for Jhenaidah-2 constituency and district Awami League leader, Tahjib Alam Siddiqui, was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members from Savar, Dhaka, on Thursday night.
A team from Rab-4 detained Tahjib Alam Siddiqui in the Nabinagar area of Savar. The arrest was confirmed by Abdullah Al Mamun, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station.
The arrested individual was brought before the Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Jhenaidah, where police sought a 10-day remand in connection with three cases. The court, however, approved a 3-day remand.
The three cases involve a murder charge filed on August 27 related to the 11-year-old killing of Jamaat worker Abdus Salam, as well as two arson cases lodged on August 4. The arson cases pertain to attacks on the district BNP office and the residence of District BNP President, Advocate MA Majid.
Tahjib Alam Siddiqui was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2014 as an independent candidate and again in 2018 as a nominee of the Awami League. In the 2024 elections, he ran as an Awami League candidate but was defeated by independent contender Naser Shahriar Zahedi Mahul.
Tahjib Alam Siddiqui is the son of the late Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui, former central president of the Chhatra League. He is also the owner of Dhaka Doreen Power Limited.
