The rickshaw, which carried the body of Ghulam Nafiz, a martyr in the anti-discrimination movement, will be kept as a memorial at the July Uprising Memorial Museum in Ganabhaban in the capital.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Nahid Islam said this while the rickshaw was handed over to the museum at the Ganabhaban today, said a ministry press release, reports BSS.
At that time, the adviser expressed his gratitude to the rickshaw-puller Noor Mohammad for his bravery and assured him of giving financial assistance.
When the rickshaw-puller Noor Mohammad alias Nuru was contacted, he said that he sold it (rickshaw) to Ahsanul Kabir Siddiqui Kaiser, an expatriate living in London, at Taka 35,000.
Later, when Ahsanul Kabir Siddiqui was contacted, he expressed his desire to hand over the rickshaw to the July Uprising Memorial Museum.
Accordingly, the rickshaw was handed over to Mahfuj Alam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser and Joint Convener of the July Uprising Memorial Museum on Thursday.
Golam Nafiz, a student of Banani Vidyaniketan School and College, was shot dead under the foot over-bridge of Farmgate on August 4 at around 4:30 pm during the anti-discrimination student movement.
When police put the bullet-ridden body of Nafiz on the footrest of the rickshaw, he was still holding onto the rickshaw rod with one of his hands.
The rickshaw puller took him to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
