Following a four-day remand in a murder case at Uttara West Police Station related to the anti-discrimination movement, former Agriculture Minister and ex-MP Dr. Abdus Shahid has been sent to jail.
On Sunday, November 3, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Imran Ahmed ordered his detention in jail.
Previously, on October 30, another court granted a four-day remand for Abdus Shahid. Upon completion of this remand, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim of Uttara West Police Station, presented him before the court and requested his detention in jail. On behalf of the former minister, lawyer Sri Pran Nath was seeking bail. However, it was denied.
On October 29, Abdus Shahid was arrested by Uttara West Police Station.
During the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5, Raida Paribahan driver Alamgir Hossain was shot dead in Azampur. His mother, Aleya, filed a murder case at Uttara West Police Station on October 6. The case listed 288 people as accused, including Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina.
